Nationalism:Austria-Hungary annexed  Bosnia as one of its  territories in 1908, Serbia was newly independent and thought that Bosnia should be one of their territories. This became an area of conflict.

Imperialism: To Germany, it seemed like Britain and France were taking over  huge sections of the Earth by force so they started Alliances to protect themselves.

Alliances: There were a lot of secret alliances during this time so if someone started war they would also start war with their allies, for example when Austria-Hungary started war with Serbia, Germany got involved and so on
