You are in a conversation with a young person. They use a word in a sentance that you don't understand. Quite frankly, it sounds made up, but they keep going as if it has real meaning. You don't want to seem rude but you aren't really following along anymore due to that word.

What do you do?

Ask them what the word they used means, in a non-condescending voice. Be open to the fact that this is a real word for them.

*Extra note*

Don't try to use the word yourself if you still don't understand.

True or False?

If a person under the age of 18 tells you that they are smoking weed, you are required to report it according to mandatory reporting laws.

Generally False! Refer to your own state's mandatory reporting laws for further clarification.

An example from TX:

Child abuse and neglect.
Abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and exploitation of the elderly or adults with disabilities living at home.
Abuse of children in child-care facilities or treatment centers.
Abuse of adults and children who live in state facilities or are being helped by programs for people with mental illness or intellectual disabilities.

Texas law says anyone who thinks a child, or person 65 years or older, or an adult with disabilities is being abused, neglected, or exploited must report it to DFPS.
