Original Sin has two meanings: 

(1) the sin of the first human beings, who disobeyed God's command by choosing to follow their own will and thus lost their original holiness and became subject to death, (

Mortal Sin: Mortal sin results in the loss of sanctifying grace and requires the sacrament of confession for reconciliation with God. It can lead to eternal separation from God if not repented.

Venial Sin: Venial sins do not require confession for forgiveness, as they can be forgiven through acts of contrition, prayer, and good works. However, they can accumulate and lead to more serious sins if not addressed.

What is absolution?


Absolution is the term for the forgiveness pf sins imparted by ordained Catholic priest during the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the priest plays a necessary role in administering this sacrament. He acts "in persona Christi." This means that we believe that it is Christ, not the priest, who is forgiving our sins. The intent of this sacrament is to provide healing for the soul and regain the grace of God, lost by sin. Our sins are forgiven after the priest recites the words of absolution and the penance is completed.
