Who pays the tariff when a tariff is applied? What is the purpose of tariffs?
Tariff is a tax on incoming goods from other countries.
The tax is paid by the person purchasing the goods (not the seller).
The purpose is to make overseas goods more expensive and thus incentivise buyers to buy domestically produced goods (which are cheaper as they are not taxed).
