What is common to animals, plants, fungi and bacteria
They are all made of cells
How many cells are multicellular organisms made of?
More than 1
Name ONE of the Kingdoms of life
Kingdom Animalia (Animal), or
Kingdom Plantae (Plants) or
Kingdom Fungi or
Kingdom Protozoa or
Kingdom Monera
What is this an example of?
grass -> insect -> bird ->fox
food web
What are the 2 types of data
Qualitative (descriptions) and quantitative (numbers)
What are structures within cells called?
Organelles
Groups of similar cells are called:
a) tissue
b) matrix
c) mesh
d) fabric
tissue
Organisms are classified according to their:
a) behaviour
b) structure
c) internal workings
structure
What does the arrow in a food web or chain indicate?
Flow of energy
What is the difference between an observation and an inference?
An observation is something that has been detected using our senses. An inference is a possible explanation for the observation.
What organelle is found in plant cells but not in animal cells?
Chloroplast
What is formed when groups of tissues work together
An organ
What would be an abiotic factor that influences where an organism can live?

b) 10%
c) 25%

When an experiment is repeated multiple times, and similar results are collected, the experiment is said to be .......
reliable
Complete the formula for respiration:
glucose + oxygen produces.....
carbon dioxide + water + energy (ATP)
What system is the pancreas part of?
Digestive system
What is Charles Darwin famous for?
Understanding that over long periods of time, living organisms will evolve/change to suit their environment.
Describe how carbon is cycled through the environment
Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through their leaves and convert it into sugars through photosynthesis. Organisms eat plants and convert the sugars into energy through respiration, and release carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. Dead organisms are decomposed by bacteria and fungi which also releases carbon dioxide into atmosphere.
Name 3 ways that scientific information can be presented
Table, graph, flowchart, formula, drawing, models, keys, spreadsheets
what are the 4 stages of mitosis (cell division)?
Double points if you get them in the correct order.
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
Describe how plants move water through their structure.
Bonus 100 points: what is the name of this process?
Water is absorbed through the roots, travels up the xylem, and passes out of the stomates in the leaves.
it is called translocation.
Give an example of an organism which has evolved and describe some reasons why it changed.
Class to determine if the answer is good enough!!
eg - Galapagos island finches or tortoises, whales, fish,
Give an example of a strategy that humans have used to try to improve a named damaged ecosystem
Students to decide if answer is good enough!
Outline the 4 different experimental variables
Independent - variable which is changed
Dependent - variable which is measured
Constant - variables which are kept the same
Control - used as a benchmark or a point of comparison against which other test results are measured
