When vowels in an unstressed position become a schwa.
What is vowel reduction?
These words go before a verb to add information related to ability, permission, obligation and likelihood

The removal of words or phrases from an utterance
What is ellipses?
Words that are put onto the end of a sentence that turn it into a question
What are interrogative tags?
The emotional associations or values connected to a word
What are connotations?
A vowel sound when the tongue starts in one place and moves to another
What is a diphthong?
Words that show the position in space and time of a noun
What is a preposition?
When a noun is created from any other word class
What is nominalisation?
Turns in spoken discourse that relate to each others, such as questions and answers, greetings and response

A sound made using total closure of the oral cavity

A word formation process to describe the change from proper nouns to everyday words
What is commonisation?
Sentences that give a direct order or instruction
What is an imperative sentence?
Names or titles used to address people

A process of deduction where speakers draw on their existing knowledge to fill gaps and work out what is meant
