100

What are the three states of matter?

Solid, liquid and gas.

100

What change of state occurs when a solid becomes a liquid?

Melting

100

What does density measure?

How compact a substance is (mass per volume).

100

What is a mixture?

A combination of different pure substances.

100

What is the colour of my water bottle

Green

200

Which state of matter has a fixed shape and fixed volume?

Solid

200

Which two changes of state require energy to be added?

Melting and evaporating.

200

Write the formula for density

Density = Mass รท Volume

200

What is a pure substance?

A substance made of only one type of substance

200

What house was I in?

Hindley

300

Which state of matter can be squashed (compressed)?

Gas

300

During freezing, what happens to the particles?

They slow down and move closer together.

300

Which is denser: fresh water or salt water?

Salt Water

300

What is a solution?

A mixture where a solute dissolves in a solvent

300

What is my favourite Science?

Psychology
400

Using the particle model, explain why liquids have no fixed shape but a fixed volume.

The particles can move past one another, so they take the shape of the container, but the particles remain close together so the volume stays the same.

400

During evaporation, how do particle movement and spacing change?

Particles gain energy, move faster and spread further apart.

400

Two objects both have a mass of 1 kg one is a large box and the other is a small box. Which one is denser

The small box because its particles are packed more closely together.

400

What is the difference between a solute and a solvent?

A solute is the substance being dissolved, while the solvent is the substance that dissolves it

400

What is my favourite sport?

Tennis

500

Use the particle model to explain why gases can be compressed but solids cannot.

Gas particles are far apart with lots of empty space, so they can be pushed closer together. Solid particles are tightly packed with almost no empty space.

500

A cold drink forms water droplets on the outside. What change of state is occurring, and why?

Condensation. Water vapour loses energy, slows down and changes into liquid water.

500

A substance has a mass of 150 g and a volume of 50 mL. What is its density?

3 g/mL

500

How can you make a solution more concentrated?

Add more solute to the same amount of solvent.

500

How many times have I broken my wrists?

twice
