name 4 of the 6 specialised cells we have looked at so far!

Bonus points for successfully answering all 6.

Root hair cell

Palisade cells

Sperm cells

Ova (Egg cell)

Red Blood Cell (RBC)

Nerve Cells

100

Which side of the body is the heart located

Left

100

What is the purpose of the circulatory system?

to pump oxygenated blood around the body to organs to aid with bodily function.

100

What are the 4 main parts of blood?

Red Blood Cells (RBC)

White Blood Cells (WBC)

Platelets

Plasma

100

What does the 'N' in MRS GREN stand for?

Nutrition

200
Which 2 specialised that we have explored belong to plants?

Palisade cells

Root hair cells

200

The left side of the body represents deoxygenated blood, or oxygenated blood?

The left side of the body deals with oxygenated blood

the right side of the body deals with deoxygenated blood

200

How many chambers are there in the heart?

200

In Red Blood Cells (RBC's) what holds onto the oxygen?

Haemoglobin

200

What are the three tenets of cell theory?

All living things are made up of cells

cells are the smallest working units of all living things.

All cells come from pre-existing cells through cell division

300

What is the function/role of Palisade cells?

To carry out photosynthesis by absorbing sunlight and converting it into energy for the rest of the plant.

300

Which chamber of the heart pumps blood from the heart to the lungs?

Right ventricle

300

What are the chambers of the heart?

left atrium

left ventricle

right ventricle

right atrium

300

Name 3 other things that can be found in blood (Excluding RBC, WBC, platelets, and plasma)

Digested food

Oxygen

Carbon dioxide

waste (urea)

hormones

300

What is the shape of a RBC?

Jam donut/ Jelly donut

Biconcave disc

400

What is the function of the Sperm cell, and how does it structure assist with its function?

The function of the sperm cell is to carry half of the genetic material received from the male (father) to the egg cell (mother). This cell contains a head which stores the genetic material, a mitochondria midpiece, and a tail which receives it's energy to 'swim' and move towards an egg cell from the mitochondria.

400

When blood gets pumped through the heart, which chamber does it go through first?

The left atrium

400

Blood travels AWAY from the heart using ...

Arteries.

Remember: 'A = Away'

400

What are the 2 main types of White Blood Cells?

Lymphocytes

Macrophages

400

Which lung (left or right) contains more lobes? Why?

The right lung has 3 lobes, whereas the left lung contains 2 lobes. this is because the heart occupies a portion of the left side next to the lungs.

500

Why does the lack of a nucleus in the structure of an RBC provide more overall functionality?

As the RBC does not contain a nucleus, the area which would be occupied with a nucleus can now be occupied with more haemoglobin which will assist in carrying oxygen throughout the body.
500

Where in the heart can you find the tricuspid valve?

Between the right atrium and the right ventricle.

500

If red and blue represent oxygenated and deoxygenated passages for blood (arteries and veins) How would you colour the capillaries?

You would colour arteries and veins red and blue as they each deal with oxygenated and deoxygenated blood (respectively). However, capillaries are where deoxygenated blood is oxygenated and thus, would be coloured both red and blue (~50%)

500

Capillaries are only one cell thick, what is the reason for this?

Bonus: What is the process which occurs her?

The process of diffusion removes the Co2 from the RBC and replaces it with O2. this process involves moving across a concentration gradient through a process called 'diffusion'.

Turned tables!

You provide a question to a group of my choosing. If they answer it correctly, they receive the points. If they cannot answer the question correctly, you receive the points.

Did the team guess it correctly? In which case, that team recieves points

If the team guessed incorrectly, you win the points
