What is kinetic energy?

Energy in motion.

100

Define energy transformations.

One type of energy transforming to another type of energy.

100

What type of energy is stored in rubber bands or objects made out of elastic?

Elastic potential energy.

100

List a prac that we have completed this term.

Teacher judgement.
200

What is potential energy?

Stored energy.

200

Define energy transfers.

Energy moving from one object to another.

200

What type of energy acts on every object on Earth.

Gravity.

200

Define energy efficiency.

The efficiency of any device is the ratio of useful energy compared to the energy required to make the device work or the amount of wasted energy.

300

What is gravitational potential energy?

Gravitational potential energy is the energy that is stored when gravity is prevented from acting on it.

300

Describe the energy transformations that occur when dropping a bouncy ball.

Gravitational potential energy --> kinetic energy

Kinetic energy --> elastic potential energy

Elastic potential energy --> kinetic energy

Wasted forms of energy: Sound and thermal

300

In a rollercoaster, when would you have the most potential energy?

At the top of a hill.

300

What does PQE stand for?

Pattern, quantify, exception

400

What is elastic potential energy?

The potential energy stored in a stretched elastic material.

400

List the types of energy involved in a microwave when heating food (3).

Electrical energy, sound energy and thermal energy.

400

What type of potential energy is stored in the bonds between atoms and molecules. These bonds can be broken down if digested or heated.

Chemical potential energy.

400

What are we studying next term?

Biology

500

What is chemical potential energy?

Chemical potential energy is stored within the bonds of atoms and molecules of a substance. The bonds have stored chemical potential energy which is released when they are broken and the substance undergoes a chemical reaction.

500

Provide an example of an energy transfer AND energy transformation.

Teacher judgement.

500

What is the formula to calculate chemical potential energy?

We used this in our food burning prac.

C.P Energy (J) = mass of water (10 g) x change in temperature (°C) x 4.2

Describe how to draw a Sankey diagram. List the types of energy that go around the Sankey diagram.

Start with starting energy. Right side of arrow are the useful energy/ies. Bottom of the arrow are the wasted energy/ies.
