The arrangement of the page elements.
Layout
Reviewing a copy and other page elements to catch errors and typos.
Proofreading
the sharpness of an image. In print, this is measured in DPI. In digital, it is measured in pixels.
Resolution
The idea or concept that ties the entire yearbook together.
Theme
the principal editor of a publication, responsible for managing editorial policies and the production of content
Editor in Cheif
The focal point of the page.
Dominant Element
a line that gives credit to the author of a story. It can appear either at the beginning or end of copy.
Byline
a guideline in photography that encourages a photographer to move the primary subject of the photograph away from the center.
Rule of Thirds
A predesigned layout, something that serves as a model for others to copy
Template
a person who plans the form, look, or workings of something before its being made or built, typically by drawing it in detail.
Designer
a line of large type used to tell the reader what to follow. it introduces the topic and serves as a main visual point of interest on the spread
Headline
Short copy that describes a picture, often placed below it, to help the reader better understand the image.
Caption
refers to how much of the image is in focus.
Depth of Field
grants some type of special privilege to journalists. Some cards have recognized legal status; others merely indicate that the bearer is a practicing journalist.
Press Pass
a person who is in charge of and determines the final content of a text, particularly a newspaper or magazine
Editor
When content or imagery extends past the edge of the page. Note, each page has extra space (usually 1/8-inch) that is trimmed after printing.
Bleed
a short extract from a film, broadcast, or piece of music or writing
Excerpt
An unposed or casual picture of a person or group. Unlike posed pictures where someone faces the camera and smiles, these pictures typically capture someone doing something in the moment.
Candid
a mathematical rule that’s used to repeatedly create visually pleasing designs
