When can you come to the Young Scholars room?

During your lunch, after school, or during your scheduled time. You can stop by in between periods, but you need to make sure you are not late to your next class!

Attend walks for different causes, clean up parks or neighborhoods, assist teachers or coaches, help organize a donation drive, etc.

What are some paid opportunities that YSLPP offers?

- Summer Program at the end of 8th grade

What are some big field trips you get to go on when you get to High School?

- Washington DC (9th Grade)

- Camping (10th Grade)

- Senior Trip to an Amusement Park (12th Grade)

What should you do if you hear of any rumors of students planning to do things they shouldn't? (fights, pull the fire alarm, etc.)

What happens if you don't finish your community service hours for each school year?

You will not get part of your scholarship money when you graduate High School. You may also miss out on field trips or paid opportunities, such Summer Program after you turn 14, STEAM Program, or internships.

What happens if you don't meet the grade requirements?

1. You are placed on Academic Probation.

2. If you are on Academic Probation repeatedly you will be suspended from the program.

3. You will need to write a letter stating why we should let you stay in the program in order to be unsuspended.

What are your main goals as a Young Scholar?

Earn a NYS Regents Diploma with advanced Designation (pass a minimum of 9 regents), do well on the SAT (1200+), and graduate ready to go into college or the workforce

How many years does it take to earn an Associate’s Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree?

Bonus: Master's Degree?

Associate's Degree: 2 years 

Bachelor's Degree: 4 years

Master's Degree: 2 years + Bachelor's Degree = 6 years

What can you do in the Young Scholars Room?

You can complete homework, study for quizzes/tests, talk with our staff members or other young scholars, stay updated on upcoming events, and complete community service opportunities.
