What is Racial Justice?

Racial Justice is a vision to change society to get rid of racial hierarchies, or racial power structures. 

Racial justice imagines a world where people of all races have the resources, power, and self-determination to fully thrive.

What is environmental justice?

Environmental justice is about making sure everyone has access to healthy food, clean air and water, and safe homes. 

For example, environmental justice tries to combat environmental racism. Environmental racism is the choices and policies that result in the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on people of color.

What is an activist?

An activist is someone who sees something that needs to be changed in their community and stands up for what is right. 

There are many types of activism- protest, art, writing, speaking, organizing people in your community, etc.

What does it mean to be transgender?

If you're transgender it means that you don't identify with the gender that people thought you were when you were born.

Rosalie Fish, from Muckleshoot Tribal School in Auburn, WA, showed up to a track meet with a red hand print covering her mouth and the letters MMIW down her right leg. What was she raising awareness of?

This was to raise awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). This is how indigenous women go missing or get murdered at very disproportionate rates. The red handprint symbolizes the voices of these women being silenced.

With FEEST, a food justice organization in King County, what changes have youth been able to make in their communities?

In Highline and Seattle Public Schools, youth leaders are organizing for more fresh, delicious, and culturally relevant foods on the lunch menu. 


They have had incredible success working with administration to get new items like squash curry, lentil stew, pho, Caribbean chicken, and others.

What do people want the money to be used for instead of a youth jail?


They want the government to spend that money on resources to help youth instead of places to cage youth.

In July 2020, after years of community protest, government official Dow Constantine committed to closing the youth jail by 2025.

Autumn Peltier is chief water commissioner of the Anishinabek Nation. 

Water protector means someone who defends the rights of people to have access to clean, safe, reliable drinking water. 

For example, in the United States, water protectors protested against the Dakota Access Pipeline in 2016, because the pipeline would leak and contaminate water for communities.
