Explain the difference between acute stress and chronic stress.

Acute: A short-term, intense response to a sudden, frightening, or overwhelming event. It is triggered by a specific incident (e.g., a car accident, traumatic event, or medical emergency) and activates the body's fight-or-flight response. Symptoms typically last from 3 days to 1 month following the event.

Chronic: A long-term, ongoing state of feeling stressed, pressured, or overwhelmed. It develops from ongoing stressors or a combination of genetic, biological, psychological, and environmental factors. Symptoms can persist for weeks, months, years, or even a lifetime, often fluctuating over time. Long-term stress can affect both physical and mental health, leading to insomnia, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, muscle tension, body pain, headaches, and digestive problems.
