What is Al-Masad mean, and why is the surah named that?
Al-Masad (المسد) means twisted fibers or palm fiber.
The surah is named that because in the last verse of, the wife of Abu Lahab (Umm Jameel) is described as carrying firewood.
"Around her neck will be a rope of palm fiber (مسد)."
Allah mentions a rope of palm fiber tied around her neck as a punishment in Hellfire, fitting her evil actions and arrogance.
What should we say if something befalls/affects us?
If something befalls you, do not say: 'If only I had done such-and-such, it would have been such-and-such.'
Rather say:
قَدَّرَ اللَّهُ وَمَا شَاءَ فَعَلَ
(Qaddar Allah wa ma shaa'a fa'al)
'It is the decree of Allah, and He does whatever He wills.'
For saying 'if' opens the door to the deeds of Shaytan."

Why was Surat Al-Kafirun revealed?
Surat Al-Kafirun was revealed because the Quraysh leaders came to the Prophet ﷺ with a proposal:
they suggested a compromise — that he worships their gods for one year, and they would worship his Lord (Allah) for one year.
In response, Allah revealed Surat Al-Kafirun completely rejecting their offer, with a clear and strong declaration that there can be no mixing between Tawheed (pure monotheism) and shirk (polytheism).
