First conditional
When is zero conditional used?
General truth, Universal truth, always true
Make a zero conditional sentence. (I / wake up late / I / be late for work)
"If I wake up late I'm late for work."
If I ________(play) the lottery, I ______ (have) a chance to hit the jackpot, but I never do.
If I played the lottery, I would have a chance to hit the jackpot, but I never do.
My boss wants to send me to Japan. I'll try sushi.
If my boss sends me to Japan, I will try sushi.
If my room mate snores loudly, I can't sleep.
Zero conditional
When do we use first conditional?
Possible situations, real situations
Make a second conditional sentence. (I / meet a genie / I / ask him for my three wishes)
"If I met a genie I would ask him for my three wishes"
Wood ______ (not burn) if there ______ (be) no air.
Wood doesn't burn if there is no air.
I want to work outside today, but that won't be possible because it's raining.
"If it weren't/wasn´t raining, I would work outside today."
If I go out for a walk, I always turn the lights off.
Zero conditional
When do we use type 2 conditionals?
Imaginary situations, hypothetical situations
Make a zero conditional sentence. (you/ get /yellow fingers /you / smoke)
" You get yellow fingers if you smoke"
If you ________(not do) the homework, you __________(be punished)
If you don't do the homework, you will be punished.
I'll try to give your message to Ted, but I'm not sure whether I'll see him or not.
"If I see Ted, I'll give him your message."

Second conditional
Say the tense differences between type 0 and type 1 conditionals.
type 0: IF + PRESENT SIMPLE, PRESENT SIMPLE
type 1: IF + PRESENT SIMPLE, WILL + INFINITIVE
Make a first conditional sentence. ( You / forget my birthday / I / speak to you again)
"If you forget my birthday, I'll never speak to you again".
If I ___________(be) a baby, I __________(sleep) and _______(play) all day. (The fact is, you are NOT a baby now)
If I were a baby, I would sleep and play all day.
Chuck really wants to play professional basketball, but he is really short.
"If Chuck were taller, he would be able to play basketball".
