In the text, "Mango-Shaped Space" by Wendy Mass the author uses internal dialogue in order to develop Mia's perspective of Mia feeling confused because she sees things differently than her classmates. The author states, "Now I became confused wasn't it obvious what I meant?" This is important because it shows that Mia does not see things the same way of her classmates. In this quote this is the first time that Mia has realized this. Because of this, Mia is feeling confused. The author uses Mia's personal thoughts in order to convey Mia's feelings, even though she is not literally saying these things out loud.
