What does minding your own business mean?
When I am thinking about my own work, thoughts and actions. NOT telling others what to do or think.
What does jumping to conclusions mean?
It means accepting something as true without question or proof.
Give one example of being kind.
(any kind action putting others first)
(any respectful action)
It means taking responsibility when I make a mistake.
One of my classmates is playing with a toy when they should be doing a math worksheet. What should I do?
Keep doing my math worksheet and let the teacher handle it.
My coat is on the ground. Someone must have thrown it there. Is this an assumption or a fact?
If we did not see anyone throw it on the ground, it is an assumption.
How do you feel when someone is kind to you?
Happy, cared about.
When someone is talking, what is a respectful response?
Listen while they are talking and wait for our turn to respond.
How does blaming hurt others?
They may lose trust in you and feel sad, annoyed, or angry. They may get in trouble for something you have done. They may lose your friendship if they cannot trust you.
My classmate is making a mess at their desk. Instead of saying to the teacher, "she is being so messy" or "why are you making such a mess?" How can I mind my own business?
Keep doing my work and let the student do their own thing. As long as they are not hurting anyone they are fine. The teacher can handle this if it becomes a problem.
True. When in doubt assume the best.
What is the impact of kindness to others?
We can have a huge impact on how others feel, how they view themselves, the group atmosphere (peace or conflict), and improving our relationships.
If the teacher is talking and we want to share our ideas or give an answer, what is the respectful way to do this?
Wait until it is your turn to talk. Don't shout out or talk over the teacher. Raise your hand and be patient. Remember you might not get to share this time but will have another chance.
How does blaming hurt yourself?
When I blame someone for something I have done, I am not taking responsibility for my mistakes and may feel guilty. Others may be annoyed or angry with me and I can lose friendships and the trust of others.
Annoyed, sad, frustrated...
How does jumping to conclusions cause problems?
We are likely to assume something is true when it is not true. This can cause disagreements with others, get us in trouble, and make the wrong choice.
Your friend got a bad grade on their test and looks down. What would be an empathetic response?
You look upset, do you want to talk? (listen) I get really upset when my grade isn't as good as I hoped too.
What does respect mean?
Treating others with kindness, fairness, and care. Following rules of teachers and parents without talking back.
Say sorry, Admit your mistake, Ask how you can help fix the problem...
We should let the teacher do their job and mind our own business. What is an exception to this, and we should tell the teacher?
If someone might hurt themselves or others.
A fact is proved to be true. An assumption does not have proof to be true.
What does empathy mean?
Understanding and sharing the feelings of another. They are sad and you feel sad for them. Putting yourself in someone else's shoes.
Why is it important to show respect to our teachers?
Because our teachers have an important job to help us learn and grow. Showing your teacher respect helps you and helps them do their important job.
I dropped my sister's glass ballerina and it broke. Instead of blaming it on the cat, how I could I take responsibility for my actions.
Own it by explaining what happened to my parents and my sister and tell them I am sorry. Ask if I can do extra chores to help pay for a replacement ballerina.
