Explain the concept of the Messiah.

Messiah comes from the Hebrew word machiach and means “anointed one” or “chosen one.” 

The Messiah was the Savior and King whom God promised to Israel. Just as prophets, priests, and kings were anointed, the Anointed One would be prophet, priest, and king.

The Greek equivalent word is Christos. The name Jesus Christ means “Jesus the Messiah.”
