Why do we Lockdown?

Where do we lockdown?

 A lockdown occurs in response to a human threat of violence or a dangerous situation (such as an active shooter), whether inside the location or in the general vicinity. There is usually little to no warning when a lockdown is needed, so quick action is required.

 Lockdowns may begin with notice from law enforcement, emergency personnel, or campus security of a known danger, or an alert by management.

 During a lockdown, staff must be empowered to make quick decisions, often including whether to lock down in a safe area or evacuate to a secondary or a safe location. The building is secured during a lockdown, and no one (except emergency personnel) is allowed in or out of the building.
