You are given a baby saanen to show, you have never met her. However you do know that she is 4 months old, very skittish, very dependent on her mother, and has never been trained. Her lead is too big for her, and you are afraid she will get loose. After studying her faults as she stands quietly nursing her dam to even out her dam's udder, you see that she is a very uphill doeling (her back slopes down from her withers to her rump more than is natural); her toes turn in on all four legs. She jumps away whenever you try to touch her, and screams bloody murder for her mom. How might you show this doeling successfully?
First, do all you can to keep the doeling calm BEFORE you enter the show ring. You can scratch her withers, or stroke her neck. Also, you can talk to her in a calming voice, and telling her that everything will be fine. (Goats enjoy the sound of kind human voices). Next, as her lead is far too big, you need to hold the loose part in your fist, not like you usually do, in the palm of your hand. As for her conformation, you will want to set her hind legs less widely apart to help raise her rump. You can also set her legs so that her toes are turned out. But as she is very jumpy, do the best you can keeping her in one place.
