Dr. Steven Hale is part of this team of non-surgical doctors in our group. They can offer patients scripts for Physical Therapy or perform certain injections to treat patients. If that doesn't work, then they can internally refer the patient to the appropriate surgical team.
What is Primary Care Sports Medicine (PCSM)?
These two types of insurances are easy to spot because they are funded by the government. Some require referrals and some are non-par (non-participating) with our clinic.

This is the appointment label appropriate for a patient that calls to see Dr. Cardoso for the first time. It also happens to be the patient's first visit at any Baptist Health facility.

Who is Dr. John Zvijac?
The foot and ankle team can see all sorts of acute and chronic issues in the...feet...and ankles. So they can see Drs. Gil or Chapman for Achilles Tendon Ruptures OR they can see one of these two PAs for toe fractures and ankle sprains.

What is the Universal Grid?
The appointment label can change based on when the patient was last seen. But it can also change based on whether the last provider they saw was a non-surgeon (PCSM, Dr. Mena) or part of the Surgical team (Surgeon, their PAs, etc)? That's because of this number indicating what group they are in
What is the Tax ID?
If a patient was referred to our Orthopedic department by a Baptist Urgent Care, OCED, or the EDs for DH and WK, then they would fall this scheduling department. This is our sister department previously called Care Retention. Acronym hint* OCC
What is Outpatient Care Coordination?
These kinds of injuries or pains are considered as such when a patient sustains an injury with a distinct break or pop within a recent timeframe (no more than a month).

The Trauma team is a team made of four surgeons and their respective PA such as Eddie Rodriguez, Julian Bernal, Andres Henao, and Carlos Valiente. But these two PAs float for the Trauma team.
Who are PAs Zuzette Heathcote and Allyson Campuzano?
In Soarian, there is a Self-Pay option available to patients who go to a Baptist ED or OCED and are referred to our Orthopedic group when they are TRUE self-pay or non-par with us. We can allocate it the BHMG 1x ED F/Up and it costs between this amount of money.

The difference between these two appointment labels is 3 years; one is for patients who were treated in the last three years with one of our providers and the other is after three years.
What are Established New Injury and New Established Patient?
These calls arise when a nurse/medical provider from the Baptist ER call with questions for the On-Call orthopedic doctor. During these calls, we must verify who the on-call ED provider is and transfer to their office's backline. If the transfer fails or takes too long, then you advise your leads chat to have them assist.
What are ER Consults?

These two teams are the only ones with surgeons who can perform Total Shoulder Replacements and Reverse Total Shoulder Replacements.
What are Sports Medicine and Trauma?
Bone Health Clinic hosted by ARNPs April Tschumy and Yasmine Canela are focused on treating patients who have either had prior history of sustained fractures or who suffer from one of these conditions.
What is Osteopenia and/or Osteoporosis?
If a patient has a surgery with us and no longer has insurance afterwards, this policy guarantees that the patient is covered for the next 90 days post surgery.
What is the Global Period?
This appointment label applies to a patient who is coming back to see the same doctor treating them for the same issue in less than 1 year.
What is Established Patient?
Dr. Roger Saldana is a go-to resource and referral for younger patients that are referred to us. He works at Nichlaus Hospital treating these kind of patients.
What are pediatric patients?
Claudia Martinez is in charge of scheduling these diagnostic examinations that are performed by Dr. Mena. We do not schedule or cancel these appointments; we send messages through Powerchart to Claudia to schedule/cancel these tests.
What are EMG/NCV aka Nerve Conduction Studies?
We have 2 doctors that work with the Miami Cancer Institute. One works with our Total Joints team and the other works with the Hand and Wrist team.
Who is Dr. Giovanni Paraliticci and Dr. Matthew Treiser?
There are certain Medicare plans that we are mostly not-in-network. But there are few exceptions we take with these plans such as Aetna, Cigna, and even United.

What is New Patient?
Knowing when to transfer as call to the International Patient Dept. can be determined by these two factors.
What is an international insurance policy and having a residence outside the US for more than 6 months?
There is a type of injury to the hip that we can refer to PCSM for conservative care. But if the patient with this issue is interested in surgical consultation we have to refer them to Drs. Hommen or Ross.
