The Nervous System
The Endocrine System
The Skeletal and Muscular Systems
The Immune and Circulatory System
The Respiratory System
100

These are the TWO main organs of the nervous system

What is the brain and the spinal cord

100

What is the main organ of the endocrine system?

What are glands

100

This is the main function of the skeletal system

What is to support and protect the body

100
These are the 3 main parts of the circulatory system

What is the blood, blood vessels and heart

100

This is the organ that is mainly responsible for breathing

What are the lungs

200

These are the cells responsible for carrying electrical messages through the nervous system

What is a neuron

200

These are the chemical messengers produced by the endocrine system

What are hormones

200

This is the main function of the muscular system

What is movement

200

This is the main function of the immune system

What is to protect the body from pathogens
200

What tiny sacs in the lungs exchange gasses?

What are alveoli

300

A child walks into the kitchen and smells freshly baked cookies. The nervous system response is that their mouth begins to water. What would the smell of the freshly baked cookies be called?

What is a stimulus

300

Which gland is known as the master gland?

What is the pituitary gland

300
This connects muscles to bones

What are tendons

300

These blood vessels carry blood away from the heart

What are arteries

300

This is the muscle that helps the lungs expand and contract

What is the diaphragm

400

Two differences between a reflex and a response are...

What is a reflex does not require messages to be sent all the way to the brain, while a response does AND a reflex is involuntary while a response is voluntary

400

This hormone helps regulate blood sugar levels

What is insulin

400

These are the three types of muscle tissue

What are skeletal muscle tissue, cardiac muscle tissue, and smooth muscle tissue

400

This is the part of the blood responsible for creating blood clots

What are platelets

400

How does the respiratory system work with the circulatory system?

The respiratory system provides oxygen to the blood and removes carbon dioxide

500

How are the nervous system and endocrine system the same AND different (at least one of each)?

What is the nervous system and the endocrine system are BOTH responsible for control and coordination in the body but the nervous system sends electrical messages through neurons while the endocrine system sends chemical messages through the bloodstream

500

Why do muscles typically come in pairs? Example: the bicep and the tricep

Muscles are only able to pull, so for a body part to move in two different directions there must be two different muscles pulling in opposite directions

500

How do the immune system and circulatory system work together?

The circulatory system produces white blood cells and circulates them around the body while the immune system uses the white blood cells to attack foreign invaders (pathogens)

500

What do breathing and cellular respiration have to do with one another?

breathing brings oxygen into the body and eventually to the cells which the mitochondria in the cells use for the process of cellular respiration. Then carbon dioxide is made as a product of cellular respiration and the blood brings it back to the lungs where you breathe it out.
