What is most of the digestive system formed by?

The digestive tract

100

What is the main organ for the circulatory system?

The heart

100

What are the three processes that form breathing?

Inhalation, exchange of gases, exhalation

100

What are the two liquids that the excretory system takes out of the body?

Urine and sweat

200

Where does digestion start?

In the mouth

200

What is blood made up of?

Plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets

200

What are the two main parts of the respiratory system?

The respiratory tract and the lungs

200

What are the main organs responsible for removing waste from the blood?

The kidneys

300

Name three organs in the digestive tract.

Mouth, Oesophagus, Stomach, Small intestine, Large intestine, Anus

300

What are the names of the blood vessels and what are their functions?

Arteries: carry blood away from the heart around the body

Veins: carry blood towards the heart

Capillaries: connect the veins and arteries and allow different nutrients to pass into cells

300

Where does the exchange of gases take place?

The alveoli

300

What are the two functions of the sweat glands?

Regulating body temperature and filtering out waste from the blood

400

Name the two of the three organs in the digestive system that are not part of the digestive tract

Salivary glands, liver, pancreas

400

What are the names of the chambers of the heart and what are the two parts of a heartbeat?

Chambers: atrium and ventricle

Heartbeat parts: Diastole and systole

400

What gas do we inhale and what do we exhale?

We inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide

400

What other parts of the excretory system help to remove urine?

Ureters, bladder and urethra

500

Describe how the process of digestion occurs in either the stomach, small intestine, or large intestine

Stomach: stomach juices mix with the bolus to break down the nutrients in food and form a substance called chyme.

Small intestine: the chyme mixes with pancreatic juice and bile from the liver to form a substance called chyle. Nutrients are absorbed from the chyle into the bloodstream.

Large intestine: Water is absorbed from the undigested food and faeces are formed

500

Describe the function of two of the parts of blood.

Plasma: liquid that contains nutrients, water and waste

Red blood cells: have a red substance called haemoglobin that can transport oxygen and carbon dioxide

White blood cells: protect the body from infection

Platelets: stick together to stop bleeding

500

What organs make up the respiratory tract?

Mouth, Nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli

500

How do the kidneys remove waste from the blood?

The renal artieries carry waste into the kidneys, which have tiny tubes that filter the blood. The clean blood leaves through the renal veins
