Anytime, anywhere! At any NCS event, though get across that most opportunities come from networking and seeking them out. Their relationships with their advisors, mentors, professors, and even peers are crucial to develop.

A student is in a time crunch to print off papers for their class, but they don't have any money on their Wolf Card. What do you advise?

Go downstairs on the first floor. By the bathrooms is a printer and a machine to add money to their card.

What should a student do to look professional on LinkedIn?

-Keep it up to date and have appropriate sections reflecting their skills and experiences.

-Engage with peers and employers. Use professional communication and avoid connecting with random employers.

-Do message employers introducing yourself and ask for an informational interview--establish a connection before actually 'connecting.'

What are some differences between a Resume, Cover Letter, and CV?

**Bonus: What does CV stand for?**

Resume: Bullet point based. No References or Summary. Will look differently across majors/fields. Tailored to specific job.

Cover Letter: Formal letter to a specific organization. Highlight top 3 skills/experiences that make you the best candidate. Explain how they will impact/benefit the organization.

Curriculum Vitae: Like a resume, but it is more than 1 page. For those pursuing academics or research. Graduate/Doctorate students (applying undergrads). Can put down References.

When and how often should you look at the CareerHelp email?

They are still clients, so when there are no drop-ins, answer them promptly. Should be checked at the beginning, middle, and end of your shift (so you can communicate with the next CM)

How do you respond to a student who comes in for a drop-in, but they have never written a resume/are distressed?

Meet the student where they are at! Introduce yourself and ask for their goals. Tell them that this will take longer than a drop-in, but don't discourage them from the Studio. Let them know that we have resources for them to use on their own and guide them through them. Reassure them and invite them to either schedule a longer appointment or to come back in for review.

When are Drop-ins and when are Appointments?

Drop-in hours are held Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Appointments are available Monday through Thursday from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

When should you submit availability and time-off requests by each month? What do you do if you don't?

By the 12th of each month & ask your fellow CMs to cover your shift and offer it in Teams.

What do you tell a student who has not heard back from an employer yet?

Ask for details: When did you apply? How long has it been? What is the application deadline? 

Advise: Wait at least a week or so, then reach out to the employer. Use Handshake resource: Professional Communication. Take note that they may be waiting for the application window to end to consider all applicants. Keep in contact, but don't put all eggs in one basket too.

How should a student prepare for an interview/career fair?

-Set up an appointment for a Mock Interview 

-Do their research on the company/role

-Come up with questions to ask that aren't basic

What are the key differences between the Pack Internship Grant Program and Wolf Pack STEM?

PIGP: Only offered in the Spring to ALL majors. Applications open in the Fall. It is 120 hours during the semester and starts at $16/hour.

WPS: Offered year-round to STEM and Business majors. 120 hours during the school year or 360 hours during the Summer. Pay ranges between $16-$22/hour.

How do you know that a job is ready for approval? What do you do if it isn't?

-The job description gives details about the company, the role, pay/benefits, qualifications, pay and deadline are reasonable (no typos), etc

-Copy identified template from Box and put in the comments section>set to In-Progress>make sure your label is attached>check within two weeks if they resubmitted, if not, Decline
