An independent regulatory commission is an agency that regulates a certain area of the economy. An example of this includes the FDIC.

Department of Defense, Department of State, and Department of Treasury were all formed in 1789.
Why would an income tax be considered a progressive tax as well?
It is progressive because the government takes more of your paycheck if and when you make more money.

The idea that the three branches of government are able to control one another to prevent one from becoming too powerful.

Independent Executive Agencies manage a particular area of the federal government.
This Department ensures effective use of American technological and scientific resources by U.S Citizens.

What is Mandatory spending?
In simple terms that money is required by law to be spent on a program so Congress does not stand in the way of its use.

The Cabinet or the group of advisers to the President are made up of the head officials from what offices?
What are government corporations? In terms of money, how are they different than other government offices?
Government corporations are federal agencies but unlike other offices they have to earn their own money through charging of services to their customers. Example of this is the USPS.

What is Discretionary spending?
Discretionary spending is funding that must go through the budget but MAY be used for optional activities or programs. Remember after paying for the programs required by law this would be considered the leftovers.
If membership in the House of Representatives is determined by population what may lead to changes in the number of members as time goes on.
As time goes on, the population of each state will change also affecting the number of representatives in the House of Reps for that state, commonwealth, or territory.
What are the duties of the Office of Management and Budget?
To help the President create a federal budget and to see its legal execution by the other departments.
Describe the spoils system and what protocols are in place to ensure that this does not happen.
The spoils system was a system where the President rewards a supporter with a government position. To land a federal job, you have to apply and qualify for the job rather than be rewarded based on your relationship to an individual.
This Department leads the effort to promote scientific discovery and improve the quality of life through technological innovations.

The fiscal policy involves the president and his budget team coming up with the federal budget and monetary policy involves the government controlling how much money is moving around the economy.
Describe the protection HABEAS CORPUS provides to American citizens
The police cannot hold you for long without cause and must present you in court to a judge. Remember the cops cannot keep you for longer than 24 hours without reasonable cause.
