Under the Han dynasty the following developments occurred: establishment of civil service that employed men educated in Confucian teachings, advancements in arts, scholarship and history. Developments in farming tools with iron and improvements in irrigation systems. Inventions included paper the compass and herbal medicines. Respect for family and traditions. These things were lasting and that is why they might consider themselves “the children of Han.”
