How does our climate affect what we wear and do?

In the winter, we bundle up in warm clothes - big puffy jackets, snow pants, gloves, hats, scarf and boots. During the winter, we can go snowboarding, snowshoeing, ski-dooing, etc.

In the summer, we wear light and breathable clothing - shorts, tee-shirts, and sandals. During the summer, we can go swimming, hiking/walking, biking, etc.

Explain why areas near the Equator receives warmer temperatures then near the poles.

The surface of the Earth close to the Equator is called the low latitudes. The surface of the Earth close to the poles is called the high latitudes. The low latitudes receive the most hear from the sun. This happens because the Earth is a sphere - the sun's rays hit the Earth more directly near the Equator than at the poles. At the poles, the sun's energy is spread over a larger area and so it is not as hot.

Describe the following ecozones:

    1. Boreal Forest

    2. Polar Tundra

Pg. 70-71

Boreal Forest - Coniferous forest and make lakes, bogs, and marshes.

                     - Cold winters and warm summers with precipitation in all seasons.

Polar Tundra - Lichen and mosses with many bogs and lakes, and year-round ice in polar regions.

                   - Long, cold winters and short cool summers.

Describe the following ecozones:

    1. Tropical rainforest

    2. Desert

Pg. 70-71
