Salsa was not formed until late 19th century. When the immigrants from different countries such as Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, lived in Spanish Harlem, New York, they danced salsa to remember their traditions as well as celebrate all the other cultures. Salsa songs are about music and they reflect romantic relations, patriotism and most importantly the lifestyle of the immigrants that live there. The historical purpose of salsa is to remember where the roots of each individual lies.
