Differential Backup/Cumulative

• Everything that is changed since the last full backup
• 2 step recovery process; restore the last full and the most recent differential
• The backup takes progressively longer as the time from the last full backup increases

Incremental Backup

• Everything that’s changed since the last backup of any kind 
• The backups are fairly quick especially in weekly full, daily incremental schedule
• Recovery is a multi-step process since it requires restoring and full and then each individual incremental
