A student should provide as much information from our appeal form as they can showing a minimum of 1 YEAR of VA residency. A strong appeal should have at least 3 documents but it is not REQUIRED. The reviewer will let the student know if additional info is needed.

What should you do when a parent calls and asks to speak with their child who is currently in class?

Let the parent know that we are unable to divulge the student's location - direct to your Supervisor for further assistance. If it's an emergency direct parent to contact Security.

What should you do if a student asks what time the campus closes and if the parking lot is patrolled at night?

Alert a counselor, Mark Haines, or Dr. Sarah Somerville that there is a student who may be in distress. Offer Germanna Cares card if the student is unable to meet with someone.

The student may be asking because they need a safe area to stay at during the day/night. If the student did not see a counselor discuss with your supervisor about a possibility to report an incident

What is the difference between Academic Reinstatement and Academic Renewal?

Reinstatement: The suspended student must submit a written petition for readmission/reinstatement to the Registrar for consideration by the Admissions Committee. The petition may be hand delivered to a campus Welcome Center or sent via email to: admissions@germanna.edu. 

Renewal: Currently enrolled students who return to the College after a separation of 5 years (60 months) or more may petition for academic renewal. The request must be made on the Academic Renewal Petition form and submitted to the Welcome Center. If a student is determined to be eligible for academic renewal, “D”and ”F” grades earned prior to re-enrollment will remain on the permanent record, but will be deleted from the cumulative and curriculum GPA, subject to the following conditions:
