What is Externalizing and internalizing behaviors are the two broad classifications of the kinds of behaviors exhibit by students with emotional or behavioral problems. Externalizing behaviors are those that are persistently aggressive, acting-out, or non-compliant. They include behaviors like bullying, oppositional defiant disorder, and conduct disorder. Students with internalizing behaviors display sadness or depression. These behaviors include withdrawal, anxiety, obsessions, and compulsions. Girls with emotional or behavioral disorders tend to exhibit more internalizing behaviors.
