We are not paid off of Average Daily Attendance. We are paid off of Average Daily Membership. Average Daily Attendance is a metric that is looked at by the State of Arizona and Charter Board for other measures of effectiveness.

After the LEA calendar is approved by the charter board, no changes should be made. In extreme, extenuating circumstances you may request a change with Diane Bishop.

This does not impact your ADM because the student is still enrolled at the school as a member. This would impact your ADA.

If a student arrives late to school, how can you easily determine if they have enough hours of instruction to be counted as present for the entire day?
Your Office staff can run an attendance report in Schoolmaster which will automatically calculate it.

Why are the 40th and 100th days of school important from a payment point of view?
Our Average Daily Membership is calculated for the 1-40th days of school and then for the 41st- 100th day of school. These calculations determine our funding (after October which is based on Charter Estimated Counts).

Yes, the 10 unexcused absences must be consecutive.

What can we do if a child has 18 excused absences during the year? What actions should you as a school take?
If a child has 18 excused absences, we are unable to revoke their membership from the school. The school should set up a meeting with the parents to discuss the situation and can recommend that the child is held back a grade. Given Great Hearts does not have a truancy officer, local law enforcement should be contacted in cases of extreme truancy.

If you retain a kindergartener who turned 5 on July 1st (so not an early kinder), will you get funding for this student's second year in kindergarten at your school.
Yes, you will receive funding for this student's second year of kindergarten. If the child was an early kinder (which we do not allow), then we would not receive payment if they have to repeat kinder.
