Who is Calvin Coolidge?
Elected President in 1928. President at the time of the stock market crash and beginnings of the Great Depression. He tried to prevent panic from spreading throughout the economy. He signed the Agricultural Marketing Act which helped regulate farm prices.
Who is Herbert Hoover?
A period of time from 1929 to 1939. It was a severe economic crisis. It began as a result of the stock market crash. Banks failed and factories closed. Millions were out of work.
What is the Depression?
A system for buying and selling stocks and bonds. A stock is a share in the ownership of a company. A bond is an agreement to lend money to a company for a certain amount of time. Companies sell stock to get money they need to grow. The crash of this resulted in the Great Depression.

The prohibiting of the sale of alcoholic beverages.
What is Prohibition?
A group founded in 1910. It focused on outlawing lynching and on the enforcement of laws that guaranteed equality for African Americans. Also W.E.B Du Bois was one of the early leaders.
What is the NAACP?
The Butler Act made it illegal for any teacher in a public school to teach any theory that denies the story of Devine Creation as taught in the Bible. (It made it illegal to teach the theory of evolution in public school.). A test case was formed to determine if the law was actually constitutional or not. John Thomas Scopes was a high school coach who agreed to be arrested and tried for breaking this new law. The jury found him guilty and fined him $100.

The 1920s saw an increased emphasis of advertising in newspapers, magazines, and radio. This encouraged Americans to buy more consumer goods such as automobiles, appliances, clothes and other products.

It was a age of new kinds of music and dance clubs. Also women cast off restraints and took up drinking, smoking, and immorality. Although the trend was probably not as widespread as publicly suggested.
