Can all students use a dictionary during testing?
Only ESL students can use a hard copy word to word translation dictionary, and it should be in their accommodation and have been used throughout the year.
Allowed: The use of a hard copy bilingual dictionary is allowed for Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies assessments. Bilingual dictionaries used in these cases should include ONLY word-to-word translations.
Not Allowed: A student is not allowed to use a bilingual dictionary that contains pictures, definitions, examples, or a tablet or app during a Math, Science, or Social Studies assessments.

1 Staar question to date has been released in color (8th grade cell question). Questions are given in black and white as to not discriminate for those that are color blind.
