Explain how the United States took Cuba.
June 14, 1898 a force of 17,000 US troops landed in Cuba There was a Spanish fleet in Santiago Bay that was protected by shore-based guns. THEREFORE, we decided to attack on land FIRST. On July 1st American troops attacked El Caney and San Juan Hill The Rough Riders were on FOOT! Yet, they were still able to take Kettle Hill and San Juan Hill After these battles the Spanish panicked and told their fleets to flee. On July 3rd American warships sank or beached every Spanish Vessel. AUGUST 12, 1898 a cease fire is created between the Spanish and Americans.

Explain the economic reasons for Imperialism.
A second Industrial Revolution was taking place in Urban areas to accomodate growing cities. Factories needed raw materials from around the world for power. No one country had all of the materials they needed. Tariffs began to slow down trade and building was ending in Europe. Therefore, nations began to look towards undeveloped areas in Asia and Africa.

1. Cuba could not make any treaty with another nation that would weaken its independence or allow a foreign country to gain territory in Cuba. 2. Cuba had to allow the U.S. to buy or lease naval stations in Cuba 3. Cuba’s debts had to be kept low to prevent foreign countries from placing troops inside the country to receive their payments. 4. How were the Americans able to build the Panama Canal?

Panamanians declare independence, French company raises an army and make a deal with the U.S. so they also don't build a canal in Nicaragua. 5. Panama is an independent nation and the U.S. begins building the canal.
