A large, tall, rocky area of land that comes up out of the Earth's surface that has a peak at the top
What is a mountain?
A type of wetland ecosystem characterized by poorly drained saturated soil- lots of vine -like trees
What is a swamp?
A large body if freshwater that flows downhill from its source to another body of water.
What is a river?
A mound of raised land that is smaller than a mountain. Usually formed when mountains wear away.
What is a hill?
The largest mountain chain in North America that stretches through New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Washington and Alaska.
What are the Rocky Mountains?
A small, still body of water, that's usually freshwater, but can be murky
What is a pond?
Another type of Wetland or low-lying area of land that is often covered by water with grasses, rushes, or sedges- You kayaked in one last year!
What is a marsh?
A narrow strip of land that connects 2 larger land areas
What is an isthmus?
A piece of land that is smaller than a continent and is completely surrounded by water.
What is an island?
A landform that forms from when a river carries sediment into a body of water and it builds up
What is a delta?
Found in the side of a mountain or in the ground, looks like a hole, often can climb inside.
What is a cave?
A grouping of many mountains together
What is a Mountain Range?
A large low flat area of land that covers more than 1/2 of the world's land area.
What is a plain?
An opening in the earth's crust that allow lava, ash, and gases to erupt from a cone-shaped mountain.
What is a volcano?
A natural area of water that is mostly surrounded by land. We have one nearby (Green), and think of The Chesapeake!
What is a bay?
A strip of land or piece of land that is surrounded on 3 sides by water- Door County, Wisconsin is an example of one
What is a peninsula?
A steep , vertical, or nearly vertical rock formation with steep sides, that is a common landscape for swimmers and divers
What is a cliff?
A large area of flat land that is raised higher than the land around it. Can be an elevated plain.
What is a plateau?
A Large flat area of land where grasses are the dominant vegetation and where taller plant don't exist.
What is the grasslands?
A mound or hill of sand created by the movement of wind- deserts and coastline.
What is a dune?
A small isolated pool of seawater that forms in the intertidal zone of ocean- where ocean meets land.
What is a tide pool?
There are five Great bodies of fresh water, not salt water. What are they?
