What is the difference between a unicellular and multicellular organism?
Unicellular = one cell
Multicellular = more than one cell
What is the difference between an organ and an organ system?
Organ systems are many organs working together.
What is the purpose of the reproductive system?
Creating offspring (babies).
What is the name of this course?
Living Environment
Name any two organelles in a cell (you are not allowed to read the cell diagram).
Cell membrane (also called plasma membrane)
Nucleus
Ribosome
Chloroplast
Cell Wall
Mitochondria
Describe the purpose of the circulatory system.
To move blood around the body.
What is ATP used for?
Energy inside a cell (think All The Power!!!)
What should you do if you are going to miss class? Be specific about how you will do this (HINT: say the full name).
Explain what diffusion is.
Molecules spreading out from high concentration to low concentration.
Describe any two organ systems (also called body systems) and describe how they work together.
Many answers.
Pick ONE of the following two processes and put the materials in the right order. Use the words in bold to fill in the blanks.
CO2(carbon dioxide), O2(oxygen), H20(water), Energy(ATP or sunlight), Glucose(sugar)
1) Cellular respiration:
____ + _____ + _____--> _____ + _____
2) Photosynthesis:
____ + _____ --> _____ + _____ + ______
Cellular respiration:
O2 + Glucose --> H2O + CO2 + ATP energy
Photosynthesis:
CO2 + H2O + sunlight energy --> O2 + glucose
How many lab periods must you complete in your 2 years of Living Environment in order to take the regents?
How many state-required labs must you do?
27 periods, 4 state labs.
What two organelles are different between a plant cell and animal cell?
What do they do?
Only plants have cell walls (keep its strong structure) and chloroplasts (help with photosynthesis).
All of the other organelles are found in both plant cells and animal cells.
Match the following words with their description:
Vocab: Antigen, Antibody, White Blood Cell, Pathogen
Description:
-something that infects you and causes disease.
-a cell that destroys/removes a pathogen.
-something that sticks to pathogens and marks them as a threat.
-a protein on the surface of a pathogen, and that gets noticed by the immune system.
-something that infects you and causes disease. Pathogen
-a cell that destroys/removes a pathogen. WBC
-something that sticks to pathogens and marks them as a threat. Antibody
-a protein on the surface of a pathogen, and that gets noticed by the immune system. Antigen
Explain the relative amount (same amount, 3x more, half as much, etc.) of DNA in the different kinds of cells below:
Regular body cell
Sperm cell
Egg cell
A regular body cell has twice as much DNA as a sperm cell or an egg cell. This is because a sperm cell and an egg cell combine their DNA to make the first cell in a new human (this cell is called a zygote).
What are the regents exams needed for graduating?
1 Science, 1 History, 1 ELA, 1 Math, 1 of your choice.
Many answers
Explain what homeostasis is, and give an example of how a particular organ system (also called body system) does it.
Homeostasis is keeping the right balance of something (eg: heat, water amount, salt, acidity, blood glucose, etc.).
Explain what is happening when a woman has her period (called menstruation), and what purpose it serves.
The uterine lining (the wall of the uterus/womb) is shedding because the woman failed to get pregnant that month. There is no need to keep it thick if no child will grow there.
It will thicken again as a woman prepares to release another egg from her ovaries the next month.
Did you already turn in your syllabus signed by your parents/guardians? Take ANOTHER candy (then gloat to the other students).
Mwahahahaha!
