What is a military alliance organization that was originally created to protect against the threat of the Soviet Union and the spread of communism. It is now an organization for mutual defense, to keep the peace and defend member nations in times of war.

What is the ICRC unites aid groups and provides aid to people who are victims of war or natural disasters. The group tries to protect civilians and POW's. They bring food, cltohing, and medicine to war torn areas. They are neutral and do not take sides during conflicts.

Compare and contrast communism and socialism.
What is...In communism, there is no private ownership of property or wealth. Workers unite to control businesses so everything is equal and there is one ruler. In socialism, some believe this form of government is desirable and achievable. Others, view this form of government as inefficient and believe it creates people who are dependent and gain unfairly from the government managing the economics of the country. Both are systems where part of the government controls the economy. Socialism is mainly an economic system while communism is an economic and political system. Communism is seen to be an extreme form of socialism. Examples of communist countries are China, Cuba, and North Korea.

What are the five main goals of US foreign policy? Give examples of each.
What is 1. Maintain national security, support democracy, provide aid to people in need, promote world peace, and engage in free trade. Examples: using military force to keep our country safe, supporting people who share our democratic ideals (S. Korea), giving food, money, medicine or troops to people who are in crisis (Haiti, Afghanistan), encouraging stability in other countries, being involved in free trade agreements like NAFTA and WTO.

Explain the purpose of a sanction and give specific examples.
What is a tool used in foreign policy to persuade a country to change their behavior. They are used as punishment when countries violate human rights, engage in unfair trade, or create deadly weapons. Sanctions can be economic; ending or limiting trade (an embargo). An example would be our sanction with Cuba.

Explain the main goal of the WTO and how it works to accomplish that goal.
What is the World Trade Organization. It's goal is to promote free trade. It encourages members to remove trade barriers and attempts to resolve disputes between countries.

What is the use of violence or the threat of violence to make people afraid and force people and governments to act in a certain way. Examples include the attacks on NY in September 2001 and suicide bombers.
