Explain Serotonin syndrome and 2 examples of what it does to a persons body
-Drug induced excess of intra-synaptic serotonin
-Happens when multiple drugs are taken in multiple forms
-Most often occurs by patients taking two or more meds that increase CNS serotonin levels by different mechanisms
-Rapid onset
-what it causes: Mental changes (agitation, confusion, hypomanic), altered muscle tone (rigidity, twitching or tremor involuntary), autonomic changes (hyper/hypotension, tachycardia, diaphoresis), CNS changes (discoordination, coma, seizures), Hyperthermia
