"To put off your old self" means to get rid of the life being corrupted by deceitful desires and live a life full of righteousness and in the image of God. Examples of doing so are: being honest - controlling their anger, and not letting it lead to sin - They should work hard - speak kindly, avoid bitterness, rage, and harsh words - should be kind, compassionate, and forgiving, just as God forgave them through Christ.
