What is an "Okie" Why are are they called that?
Okie is a person who was affected by the Dust Bowl. Many moved to California in search of a better (safer) life and hopefully to find work. They are called Okies because the Dust Bowl primarily took place in Oklahoma, but NOT all Okies were from Oklahoma.

What is the Dust Bowl and what caused it?
Land in the "midwest" dried up due to overproduction and a drought and winds caused large dust storms. There was constant dust making it hard to go outside, see, keep homes clean, eat, talk, work, etc.
What caused farmers to overproduce their goods? Why was this bad for their business?
They were told to produce many goods for WWI purposes. After WWI they didn't have as many people using or buying their goods and they were unable to pay their debts on things like farming equipment and land. This hurt their business and sent them into their own depression!

European countries did not pay back the money they owed U.S. from WWI. We taxes them to solve this problem but instead they just stopped buying our goods.
