Pitch means?

How high or low a sound is.

100
Melody is...

The 'main tune' of a song... a sequence of notes/pitches/rhythms. In Beauty and the Beast - the melody is often the main/lead 'singable' part!

TRUE/FALSE

Exercising/warm ups helps to strengthen your voice/vocal cords - just like going to the gym can strengthen the rest of your body. Warming up/exercising our voice/breath regularly prevents injury and helps prepare our voice.

True! You must work on your vocal agility/strength/stamina and build it slowly. It CAN be improved and is so good for you! Strengthen those voices!!

100

TRUE/FALSE?

It is important to warm up your voice before you start singing/acting rehearsals every single time.

TRUE!

Especially if you are acting and using your voice for a long period of time OR having to raise your voice for anything (Beast; we're looking at you). Never forget your warm ups! Don't hurt your voice - it can be difficult/take lots of time to recover from a vocal injury.

100

What happens if you strain your voice and push too hard?

You can damage your vocal cords.

200

What is vocal range?

The lowest to highest notes you can sing comfortably. (Vocal range can be improved with practice)!

200

Harmony is...

An added layer of sound - two or more different notes/pitches at the same time. In production singing this year - we will talk about singers singing the harmony alongside the melody.

200

Breathing exercises help to support to st______, build s______ and to control p____.

Strength + stamina + pitch.

Breathing exercises help to support sound, strength and to control pitch.

200

Name a healthy habit for singers.

Drinking water... Warming up... Steaming...

200
Name a drink that is good for your voice and one that is not good.

Options:

Good - water (not too hot or cold), herbal tea, honey water, broth, electrolytes

Not good - milk, coffee/tea/energy drinks, soft drink

Bonus: does this mean you cannot ever have these 'not good' drinks?

300

If a note feels strained, you should...

Stop.

Return to a comfortable pitch if you can. Never go past the edge of your voice! Train your edge instead!

300

 TRUE OR FALSE?

The melody can be sung differently; at different pitches; by different people (low/mid/high voices).

True!

The teachers will support you finding the right pitch for you - whether that be lower or higher. YOU will work on finding out what is comfortable with your range.

300

Warmup and sound that helps you find your diaphragm and helps breath control?.. helps you learn how to breathe appropriately and safely...

Breathing exercises with 'ha' sound.

300
Whispering... good or not good?

Not good!!

It causes your vocal cords to tense, squeeze together tightly and vibrate in an unnatural way - can cause strain, inflammation and dryness. If you're losing your voice - do not whisper and do not clear your throat.

300

Why is caffeine and sugar unhelpful for singing?

They dry out the throat - affecting your breath control and stability!
