Temperatures high in the atmosphere need to be: very cold, cold, or cool

Very cold

100

What happened to the water in the cup as the white solid appeared?

There was not a noticable difference and just a little bit of water vapor caused.

100

What are three important characteristics of clouds?

Shape, height (altitude), precipitation (snow, rain, ect.)

100
Label parts A, B, and D of the water cycle.

A: Water B: land D: precipiation

100

What do we call the gas that rises up from water when it heats up?

Water Vapor

200

Humidity levels need to be: high, moderate, or low

high

200

What happened to some of the molecules of liquid water at the surface that helps explain this phenomenon?

Some of the molecules of liquid water turned to water vapor and rose up. As they rose, they got colder because of the gel pack and condensed near the top of the bottle.

200

What is fog?

Clouds that touch the ground

200

Label parts G, E, and F of the water Cycle

G: transpiration, E: evaporation, F: condensation

200

What happens when water vapor cools quickly?

Frost of Hail

300

Temperatures near the ground need to be: cold, cool, or warm

Warm

300

What happened to the molecules of water near the gel pack that helps explain this phenomenon?

The molecules of liquid water condensed on the surface of the bottle and the gel pack. Some froze and creating icy crystals on the gel pack.

300

What happens to turn water vapor into a cloud?

Water vapor cools and condenses, as is rises, on particles in the air to form clouds

300

Label parts C, and H of the water cycle.

C: Energy transfer, H: gravity

300

Does air teperature increase or decrease higher up iin the atomsphere.

Decreases

400

How does hail form?

To get a hailstorm, ground/surface air needs to be humid. The sun heats the air at the surface. The warm air rises up. The temperature of the air gets colder as you go up. Rain in a storm cloud can be carried upwards by winds and freezes.

400

What sorts of things in a cloud serve a similar function as the surface of the gel pack when ice crystals form on it?

There are particles of matter in the air. Water droplets/vapor cling to them and condense to form clouds. In the experiment, the solid surface was the inside of the bottle

400

What effects do clouds have on temperature?

Clouds block sunlight during the day, keeping it cooler than it would be on a sunny day. Clouds trap heat in the atmosphere at night. This keeps the Earth’s surface warmer than it would be on a clear night.

400

What does the sun do in the water cycle? What happens as the water rises?

The sun heats the air and it rises

that air contains water droplets (vapor)

water vapor cools when it rises and condenses into clouds

400

Rising air pushes up on water droplets or crystals, holding them up until they are heavy enough to fall?

True

500

What causes hail to fall?

Gravity makes the hail fall.

500

How can we see clouds?

Some droplets or crystals are big enough to reflect a noticeable amount of light. That is what makes clouds appear white.

500

Which weather event is most likely to occur where two air masses meet? A: clear sky B: gentle wind C: huricane D: a thunderstorm

Thunderstorm

500

What would happen to the model if the sun was absent from the system?

Earth would become a frozen planet which means crystallization would happen, but the evaporation, condensation, transpiration, and precipitation would stop.

500

The storm forcast we studied had two types of precipitation happening. What were they and where were they located?

Rain: central US/ south Snow: northeast US
