The words "Verification" and "Validation" are often used interchangeably. How do you make the distinction between these two words?
Verification ensures that the developed work product reflects the specified requirements. Validation ensures that the developed work product will fulfill its intended use.

How often does REI need to get re-certified to keep our CMMI-Dev Level 3 rating?
Every 3 years

What does 4/40 and 8/80 rule represent in creating the WBS?
No activity should be shorter than four/eight hours or longer than 40/80 hours in duration

You are the project manager at the Java Ice Cream Factory. You are currently supervising the manufacturing of a new flavor of ice cream JavaBean Burgundy Crunch. The manufacturing of this new flavor was proceeding as planned, until a manufacturing error occurred that requires corrective actions to be taken. To ensure the effectiveness of corrective actions, what must you do with the corrective action?
Conduct a root cause analysis of all of the corrective actions

Why is peer reviewing test cases so important?
Because the scope of testing would include other impacted areas which is not included in the development scope.

A manager that is in charge of a small project. Since the team is small and co-located, the manager did not see the need for regular team status meetings or status reporting. Due to the manager’s heavy customer travel schedule and other responsibilities, she would rarely be at her desk or send emails. As her schedule allowed, she would use IM to request ad hoc, short notice, 1-on-1 meetings to request team member progress rather than reading their emails from days ago. What was the recommendation coming from management to avoid this situation?
Communication is a real issue. Both one-on-one as well as manager-to-team communication needs to improve. Feedback on team members’ work should be a priority. The PM should assign a deputy to hold regular status meeting, and consider conducting team meetings via conference calls.

A Project Manager just received a customer email requesting changes to 10 specific requirements listed in the project’s Requirements Specification. The project’s Tech Lead is having difficulty identifying which project deliverable are impacted and by how much. What particular REI process and project artifact (if maintained) would be helpful to the Tech Lead in this scenario?
The REQM process helps facility the management of requirements. In this process a mandatory artifact is the Requirements Traceability Matrix which provides the traceability from requirements to design, test case and development task

The code for a project has been developed and tested. The application is ready for staging. According to the PM’s deployment plan, the sub-contractor needs to perform the staging deployment. The sub-contractor informs the PM that the application deployment was a surprise and not part of their plan. Which key practices/process should the PM followed to avoid this situation?
The PM should have followed the IPM process to ensure that the schedules of all delivery related stakeholders were integrated for easy review & monitoring.

Code for a given project was developed and tested. The application is ready for customer validation which is due tomorrow. The Sys Admin group just notified the PM that the UAT environment allocated has crashed. The PM decided to inform the customer and rescheduled the UAT date. What is missing process? If you were the PM what actions would you take?
Missing process - Risks Management with contigency plan As a PM, look for another environment as a back up plan before reporting to the customer and change the UAT date.

A new project wished to adopt agile methodologies in order to save time and money. Requirements were proposed and discussed via conference calls with all stakeholders to save on time and travel costs. Each participant kept their own notes of what was discussed and agreed to, thereby eliminating the need to produce and review a written requirements document. Designs were discussed by developers using phone calls, texting, emails, instant messaging, ad hoc meetings in front of white boards and over bagels in the cafeteria. Each developer then produced code based on their own recollection of what had been discussed and agreed to, eliminating the cost of documentation for the design, data model, mockups, interfaces, meeting minutes and defects/issues. In this extreme scenario, what is the likely result when the QC group begins their work?
Since there is no documented requirements to provide the baseline, the QC does not know how to write the test cases or what to look for during testing

A Project Manager worked hard to develop LOE and cost estimates to meet a new customer’s tight timeline. Due to time constraints, he did the estimating by himself one weekend and then submitted the results to his supervisor. The PM had doubts as to whether the schedule could be met by the project team, but he wanted to demonstrate the “R” in SPARK (“Rise to the Challenge”). His supervisor also felt that the schedule was a bit tight, but not an unreasonable “stretch goal”. As the project progressed, team members were typically either overrunning their dates or having to work long hours. What did you observed from is scenario?
The project manager should engage into scope control. Discussed the estimates with the PL, TL, and QC Lead as a sanity check. After incorporating their comments, he should have obtained commitments from the people who would be performing the work before sharing the estimates with his supervisor.

A developer working on an agile project informs the PM that the design was changed without his knowledge, and he has already finished writing his code. The current issue will cause him to spend more time and effort in redoing his code. What went wrong? What are the various actions that the PM needs to take to address this situation?
Call for an emergency meeting including the design team and the execution team and confirm if there was any change and check why there was a communication gap. Check the change request trail for the change implemented. Fix the change request (CR) process. Keep a watch on the CR process. Ensure that the change is communicated to the other team members (QC, operations etc.,)

QC/Test team found 550 tickets during the first cycle of the system testing and were tagged as Defects in JIRA. 125 of those were changed to "Enhancements" by the development team. This created an issue between the development and QC lead. The PM decided to have a meeting to sort this out. What would have gone wrong? What action does the PM need to take at this point?
- Clear understanding/documentation of the requirements - Not enough validation done - No review done on the test cases
