Christians do not agree with euthanasia because of the sanctity of life. • Suffering is part of God’s plan; he would never give us more than we can bare. • The taking of human life is banned in the 10 Commandments. • They would suggest that hospice care is a real alternative to euthanasia. • Liberal Christians would allow the turning off of a life support machine if the patient is brain-dead, as this would be prolonging death not life.

• Some Christians believe in a Just War. • A Just War must meet certain criteria: • War must be a last resort, • war can only started and controlled by a leader of state, • war must have a just cause, • the aim of a war must be to bring about good, • innocent civilians should not suffer, • once evil has been conquered, war must stop. • Old Testament contains stories of people going to war. Jesus never condemned soldiers; he actually praised a Roman soldier.

• Humanists do not believe that life is god-given or holy, but they do believe that life is precious. • As they do not believe in an afterlife they believe life is special as it is the only one we’ll get. • They believe we should respect human life and take the opportunity to increase the happiness of ourselves and those around us.
