Why do teachers provide procedures/expectations for classroom learning?

Expectations are the shared understandings between teachers and students about how we operate together in the classroom. They set the tone. They create the climate. And when done well, they free students to focus on learning because they know what to expect and what’s expected of them in a safe supportive space.

Why Learning Needs Failure
  • Triggers brain growth: Struggling and failing signal the brain to rewire itself and build stronger neural pathways.

  • Builds grit: Encountering setbacks teaches adaptability, problem-solving, and resilience instead of a fear of trying

Resources: Look at instructions, guides, notes.

Why do I build routine tasks in class? Or something that may seem difficult or challenging?

Routines keep you calm and focused: When you know exactly what to expect in class, your brain doesn't have to waste energy on confusing rules or surprises.

"Just-right" challenges help you grow: Tasks that are slightly tough—but not impossible—keep school interesting, build your brainpower, and prove you can do hard things.

I try to build a balance in class.

Turn and face the school in a line that moves towards the road and wait while the teacher takes attendance.
