YES! Always call the police! This is a school vehicle which is held to different standards that a car that is hit. Safety is our number 1 concern.

You should check that the emergency brake is on. If the emergency brake is not on the lift will not work.

No not all states. NJ has the most and strictest safety standards.

Are checking all mirrors important?

Yes. Making sure all mirrors are in the appropriate view for the driver is a safety tool for the driver to see all sides of the bus.

When stopped at the railroad crossing should you open only the drivers window? If so why would you open it?

No you should also open the door as well as the window turn off all noisey equipment to listen for any trains. On a 54 passenger you should turn on the noise suppression switch.

In the break room in Berkeley Heights by the copier.

How long should you wait outside a students house at drop off/pick up?

A. Until the parent comes out regardless of how much time it takes.

B. Wait 1-2 mins then call there contact person.

C. Wait 1-5 minutes then call Dispatch.

Is the driver or aide responsible for filling out the reports?

Both. It is both the driver and aides responsibility to fill out incident and behavior reports. Accident reports would primarily be filled out by the driver but input from the aide is always helpful.

What should you do if the DEF is low in a 24 passenger bus?

DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is required only on diesel fueled 54 passenger buses.

Legally it is the drivers responsibility to perform pre/post trips.

No. You always have to see the school nurse after any accident.

Do the height of the rub rails on the side of the bus have any significance? 

Yes. The rub rails indicate where the floor, seat cushion and top of the seat is in case of an emergency.

If you find something wrong on your pre-trip what should you do? 

Take the yellow slip from the pre-trip book and leave it in Chris's door folder. If it is something immediate ask dispatch for another bus.

No closer than 15 feet and no further than 50 feet.

If a student is continuously doing the same behavior such as taking off their seatbelt, trying eat on the bus, being rude/disrespectful to driver and/or aide, is it necessary to write a behavior report? 

Yes! It is very important that you write these types of reports so I can talk to the districts and try and stop the behavior before it escalates.

When loading/unloading a student in a wheelchair what direction should the student be facing?

Away from the bus. You never load/unload a student facing the bus.

Yes.All buses should have an envelope that contains a bus accident checklist.
