Describe the counterfeit currency policy

Retain the bill

Notify your supervisor

Handle the situation discretely; the person presenting the currency usually does not know that it is counterfeit. Explain to the customer the legal requirements of retaining the currency and the paperwork that must follow. Also, explain that if an error has been made and the bill is found to be genuine, the funds will be credited to their account.

DO NOT credit the customer’s account or process any general ledger entries.

Issue a receipt to the customer

Explain what the first employee and second employee who enter the branch should be doing when they open the branch.

Phase One Employee, will park in the designated parking area. Prior to entering the building, they will perform an exterior inspection of the premises for any sign of forced entry.

If any sign of forced entry is present, employee is not to enter the branch, they should remain in or return to their car and call the local police department.

If no sign of forced entry is present, Phase One employee will then enter the building, deactivate the alarms and complete an interior inspection of the branch. They must inspect each office and every area of the branch to ensure that no unauthorized persons are present. After they perform the inspection and determine that everything is safe, they should set the “all clear” signal.

Phase Two employee will ensure that the “all clear” signal is set prior to entering the building. If it is not set, they should remain in their car and call the Security Officer or Branch Operations Officer to inform him/her.

Describe what to do in the event of a minor and major fire

 Fire

If you discover fire or smell smoke, determine the scope of the emergency.  A minor fire is one that can be exterminated with a fire extinguisher.  A major fire will require the services of the local fire department.

In the event of a minor fire:

•    Evacuate customers.

•    Notify the local fire department.

•    Extinguish fire.  Do not use a water extinguisher on an electrical fire.

•    Notify the Security Officer and Retail Administration

In the event of a major fire:

•    Evacuate and secure premises.

•    Notify the local fire department from the nearest telephone.

•    Each branch must have a predetermined meeting place picked out where employees will assemble after evacuation to receive further instructions.

•    Customers should be redirected to an alternate service location.

•    Notify the Security Officer and Retail Administration

Describe the Robbery Procedures

During Robbery Procedures & Proper Employee Conduct

•    Avoid actions that might increase the danger to yourself and others. TAKE NO RISKS!

•    Remain calm! A robber will rarely harm anyone unless you resist or provoke him/her.

•    Give the robber(s) whatever they ask for.

•    During the robbery, do not answer the phone unless instructed to do so, by the robber(s).

•    Observe the robber's physical features such as height, weight, complexion, voice, accent or mannerisms.  Note their dress, type of weapon and any other characteristics that would be useful for identification purposes (i.e. tattoos, piercings, scars, etc.).

•    As the robber exits the branch, try and note how tall he is by comparing his height to the red 6-foot marker on the door jam.

•    Activate the robbery alarm and surveillance systems when the robber is leaving, gone or when it can be done safely.

•    Retain any evidence (such as a note) that the robber

leaves, only if it can be done safely.  Do not handle unnecessarily.

•    Keep anyone from touching articles or places that the robber may have touched so that fingerprints may be obtained.  Try and block off the area(s) from any other contact.

•    From a safe position, try to observe the direction of the robber's escape, the presence of any accomplices and the mode of escape.  If by vehicle, try to obtain description and license plate number.  DO NOT LEAVE THE BANK!
