What is extinction?
During NET, DylRey is sitting at the table watching MicLop and JefRod playing with legos. DyRey's RBT encourages him to go play and DylRey gets up and finds a puzzle to play with. The RBT prompts DylRey to put the puzzle away and sit with the other boys to play. DylRey uses his AAC to request "All done" and then "puzzle". The RBT tells DylRey to play with peers for 2 more minutes and then he can play with his puzzle.
Is the RBT appropriately engaging in NET with DylRey?
No; NET should be client led! If DylRey is not interested in the Legos and is appropriately requesting to be done and play with another toy, the RBT should follow his lead. Alternatively, the RBT can have DlyRey bring the puzzle to where the other kids are and play near them; that way there are still opportunities for peer interaction while still honoring DylRey's requests.
This increases the current effectiveness of some stimulus, object, or event as reinforcement.
