A Fraction in a Number Line is an equal part of the Number Line.
What is Equivalent Fractions?
Equivalent Fractions is a different fraction with the same value as the original one.
When do you use Cross Multiplication Strategy?
You use the Cross Multiplication Strategy when you are adding or subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.
If I divide my Whole into four Equal Parts, how do I name each Equal Part?
When I divide my Whole into four Equal Parts, each part is called one fourth.
Are all the parts of a Set Equal?
They could be Equal but they could also be different.
Example:
Set = 2 boys and 3 girls
Set = 4 boys and 4 girls
What do you measure in a number line?
Do you measure the lines or the equal parts on the line?
On a number line we measure the Equal Parts on the line, in other words we measure how many spaces are in the number line.
How do you find an Equivalent Fraction?
You can find an Equivalent Fraction by multiplying the denominator and the numerator by the same number.
In a Cross Multiplication Strategy, what do you do first?
In a Cross Multiplication Strategy, you will first multiply the denominators to find a common denominator.
If I have a cake divided into 6 Equal Parts, and I eat 3 parts, What would it be the Denominator and what would it be the Numerator?
Since I divided my Whole into 6 equal parts, the Denominator would be 6
Since I ate only 3 parts, the Numerator would be 3. The Fraction would be:
3/6
In a set of plants, there are 4 roses and 5 trees. What would be the fractions of a set of plants that represents the roses?
In the set of plants, the roses and the trees are parts of a set, so if I name just the roses, I will name just the Part of the Set.
So, the roses are only 4 out of 9 plants, then the Fraction of the Set of Plants that are roses is 4/9.
If I find in a number line 3/8, in how many equal parts is my number line divided in?
In a number line the denominator tells you the number of Equal Parts into which the number line is divided.
So number 8 tells me that the number line is divided into 8 Equal Parts
What will be an Equivalent Fraction of 2/5 ?
The equivalent fraction of 2/5 could be:4/10, 6/15, 8/20, 10/25
Solve the following problem: 1/3 + 3/5 = ?
First 3 X 5 = 15 (this is the denominator)
Next you do the cross multiplication:
1x5=5 and 3x3 = 9 (numerators to add)
1/3 + 3/5 = 14/15
If I have 4/6 of a chocolate bar, what number shows the Whole and what number shows the Fraction of a Whole?
Since the denominator is 6 I know that my Whole is divided into 6 Equal parts. So the number 6 represents the Whole.
Since the 4 is the Numerator, I know that the part of the Whole is the number 4
If we have a Set of animals with 4 lions, 3 tigers and 2 elephants,name the fraction of a set that represents each kind of animals.
The Set has 9 animals in total. The fraction of the set of lions is 4 out of 9 or 4/9; the fraction of the set of tigers is 3 out of 9 or 3/9; and the fraction of the set of elephants is 2 out of 9 or 2/9.

The 2 is the numerator and represents how many equal parts I'm measuring on the number line.

My window is the Whole represented by 9 squares. The 4 squares of my Whole window my cousin broke, represent the Fraction of the Whole.
4/9 = Fraction of a Whole
I have a set of 12 shapes of triangles and circles, and I know that the Fraction of triangles is 4/12, what would it be the Fraction of the circles?
I know that the set of shapes has 12 parts. I also know the Fraction of triangles is a part of a set and is 4/12, I can say that the Fraction of Circles is 8/12 because the total set has 12 parts in total.
Draw a Number line from 0 to 1, divide the number line into 6 Equal Parts. Find the fraction 4/6 and label it.How many equal parts did you count in 4/6?
The answer is 4 equal parts or spaces.
Solve this problem using Equivalent Fractions Strategy: 1/3 + 2/6 = ?
Using equivalent Fractions you will need to change the 3 into a 6 by multiplying 3 X 2 = 6
Next you need to multiply the 1 X 2 = 2.
So now I have the Equivalent Fraction of 2/6 + 2/6 = 4/6
Bob took home five-sixths of a birthday cake. Lucy took four-fifths of another cake. What is the difference between the two cakes?
